Orientation on Data Mapping, Metadata Standardization, and TRDMC Repository System Sharing Conducted for Tigray Region Data Management Center

Mekelle, Tigray – December 31, 2024

A team from the Ethiopian Public Health Institute’s National Data Managment Center (EPHI-NDMC) Data Repository and Governance Team successfully concluded a two-day orientation session on data mapping procedures, metadata standardization, and Tigray Regional Data Management Center’s (TRDMC) sharing their repository system. Held at Zemarias Hotel in Mekelle on December 30 and 31, the event brought together representatives from the Data Repository and Governance Team and the TRDMC team to enhance health data management in the region.

The orientation aimed to familiarize stakeholders with the TRDMC repository system and provide practical skills for effective health data management. Key objectives of the session included:

  • Introducing the functions and responsibilities of the NDMC.
  • Establishing and reinforcing data quality standards.
  • Providing training on metadata and repository management.

Key Highlights

Day 1:
The first day focused on introducing the NDMC and its operations. Presentations covered data mapping procedures, shared experiences, and strategies for maintaining high data quality in alignment with the TRDMC’s goals.

Day 2:
The second day emphasized practical applications. It featured a presentation on communication guides and sample formal letters to strengthen collaboration with NGOs and government organizations. Proposed metadata standards were also shared, followed by a live demonstration of the TRDMC repository system, highlighting its features and capabilities for health data management.
